Another Household Product Roundup

Around-the-house.png

This is the third in my series on household products I can't live without.  Unlike your average product roundup, these are products I currently own and put to work on the daily.  Having lived in vintage homes for the past 14 years, I am acutely aware of the lack of storage that often accompanies properties of this variety.  When storage is a commodity, the products we exchange it for better be worth their weight in gold.  These are a few of the products I'm giving up square footage for that double as useful,  functional and practical gifts (my favorite variety!)  If you missed the earlier posts, you can check them out here and here.

  1. Melamine Mixing Bowls. These mixing bowls are a staple in my kitchen. They come as a nested set of 3 that all seem to be just the right size for your small, medium and large needs. The rubber non-slip ring at the base keeps the bowl steady when mixing and the pour spouts keep messes at bay. They are dishwasher safe and come in a rainbow of colors. A perfect housewarming or hostess gift!

  2. Glass Tupperware. I made the switch from plastic to glass food storage years ago and never looked back. The post-dishwasher warped plastic made storing Tupperware neatly in a cabinet an impossibility. These glass containers are easy to clean and stay looking crystal clear no matter how many times you wash them. I love that they can go from refrigerator to microwave with no need for replating. I hand wash my lids to keep them looking their best. If you are a weekly meal planner, check out this variety!

  3. Spring Loaded Drawer Dividers. These spring-loaded dividers are the perfect solution for getting order back in your drawers. They come in a variety of heights to accommodate kitchen utensil drawers up to deeper dresser drawers. They come in sets of 2 and install in seconds by first retracting and then expanding into your desired position. A thin cushion on either end protects your drawers from scratching and prevents slipping.

  4. OXO Good Grips POP Container. I had previously stored my dry baking ingredients in glass canisters but needed to move to something that prevented air from creeping in. These OXO containers come in a wide range of sizes for storing everything from nuts and pasta to rice and cereal. The tops disassemble for easy cleaning and the bases are a light weight enough material that they don't become too heavy when full. A note to beware of transferring your brown sugar to one of these containers, it isn't air tight enough to prevent it from hardening.

  5. Glass Canisters. I love a good glass canister. I store everything in them. They just have such a classic look whether you leave them out on the counter or tuck them behind closed doors. I keep one under my sink to store my dishwasher detergent in, a small one near my Keurig to store k-cups, one in my dining room buffet to hold tea lights. They elevate the appearance of ordinary eye sores and add a touch of luxury to your daily to-do list.

  6. Pyrex Stow & Go. This Stow & Go set by Pyrex is a must have around the holidays. The insulated carrying case keeps your dish toasty warm when transporting. I pull my 9x13" glass pan out of the oven, pop the lid on and promptly place it into the carrying case. The nylon lining makes the case easy to wipe clean with a damp cloth.

  7. Corelle Dishes in Classic Cafe Blue. I finally caved after tiring of my chipped, cracked porcelain dishes and bought my first set of Corelle. I needed a durable solution that could hold up to the test of daily life in my family of 6. Corelle's reputation for durability is unparalleled and I somewhat reluctantly concur (moms are always right!). I must say, they've done a great job of introducing some fresh patterns. I love that I can dress up my Classic Cafe Blue collection with a contrasting charger or graphic napkin. They are lightweight and store so nicely while taking up limited space. I'll admit it - I'm a convert!

  8. Le Creuset Dutch Oven. Is there anything more beautiful to perch atop your stove? Truthfully, a Dutch oven of the Le Creuset variety is a bit of an investment, but it's also a timeless piece that you will have and put to use for decades to come. They are available in a rainbow of colors and sizes allowing you to tailor your selection to fit your family's needs. Giving it as a gift? You can't go wrong with their classic white finish.

  9. Expandable Spice Rack. Finding what you're looking for in upper cabinets can be such a pain! I first purchased this expandable riser system to help me navigate my spice cabinet, but quickly returned for more when I realized how versatile they were. They've brought the greatest relief to our medication cabinet making it so much simpler to find what you are looking for at a glance. Super easy to clean and the rubber lined shelves keep small bottles from toppling.

Now it's your turn!  I want to hear about the products you can't live without in your home.  The ones that are simplifying your life, bringing you joy or adding a touch of luxury to otherwise ordinary tasks.  The arrival of Spring has us itching to purge the small appliances that have been collecting dust all winter.  What in your home is headed for the chopping block?  Share in the comments below.
