Get the look - Harriet Avenue lighting

When renovating a home as an investment, budget is often the number one indicator in steering decisions.  Tackling the Harriet Avenue project meant pulling together an assortment of fashion forward lighting without breaking the bank.  What I was quick to discover was the breadth of designer looking lighting for less and how purchasing lighting at a variety of price points can lead to an overall high-end look. To start, I budgeted $100 per light fixture.  From an investor standpoint, this is high - from a lover of high-end designer lighting standard, this is low.  My plan was to be strategic about where we put lighting.  Running electrical to a large number of lights would mean I overall could spend less per fixture.  By being intentional with our lighting plan, we were able to invest a little more in each fixture to achieve a more curated look.

With that said, only a handful of fixtures in the Harriet Avenue project rang in over $100!  Today I'm sharing a look at some of the fixtures we selected along with links to achieving a similar look in your own home.  I'm adding a few additional options that I debated about along the way.  The moral of the story?  You don't need to have deep pockets to achieve an on trend lighting look in your home.  Consider sources you might have otherwise overlooked - handmade goods by Etsy artisans tend to be affordable and high quality while online retailers offer free shipping and a wide variety of options.

Today we are looking specifically at wall mounted fixtures - most of which are under $100, some even ringing in under $50!

1 - We used this fixture, mounted horizontally in both bathrooms at the Harriet Avenue project.  I love how bright it is with 2, 60 watt bulbs - enough that you don't need an additional overhead light if you don't have room for one.

2 - These fixtures are a simple profile that make a big statement.  The shade is relatively substantial, but being transparent, takes up less visual space than a solid shaded fixture.  The rod portion extends out about 6" which allows it to clear most obstacles you may be mounting it over - in our case, the window casing.  It also comes in a 2-light version and a ceiling mounted version.

3 - I fell in love with these white swing arm sconces and fought to find a perfect home for them in our project.  While I wasn't able to integrate them this time, I hope to incorporate their chic profile in another project soon!  Guys, $31!!!

4 - We mounted this simple sconce at the Harriet Avenue project right as you walk in the door.  The brass finish is really lovely - brushed and subtle and not too brassy.  The single Edison bulb lets off a nice glow, a perfect accompaniment to future floor and table lamps.

5 - I love the mid-century profile of these powder blue and brass wall sconces.  These are a plugin sconce which means you can pop them up on any wall you are looking to add a little life to.  Their affordable price point means you could easily switch them out for something else if you tire of the finish.

6 - Stopped dead in my tracks when I came across this sleek fixture on Etsy.  The rich brass finish immediately draws your eye while the slim silhouette of the bulbs adds balance and symmetry.  Mount it above a piece of art or gorgeous mirror for a statement making vignette.

7 - Same simple profile as fixture 2 in a matte black finish.  We ultimately selected this one for the Harriet Avenue project as the black finishes repeat throughout the house.

8 - These Robert Abbey accordion wall sconces do not come in on budget, but every so often its worth splurging on a special fixture that adds that certain wow factor.  These swing arm sconces add just that and more to the Harriet Avenue project master bedroom.  Flanking either side of the bed, they add function while tying together the ceiling fixtures and hardware that repeats throughout the space.

A couple others that caught my eye but I didn't have a home for in this project: love these!  Or this set of 2.  These over a window or on either side of a piece of art would be amazing and under $100!

I'll be sharing more on our lighting plan as well as other sources for finishes like plumbing fixtures, tile, cabinets and more.  Anything in particular you want to know about?  Leave a note in the comments below.
